Carbon Monoxide
Gas appliances which do not work properly and where there is not enough adequate ventilation in a room will create carbon monoxide poisoning, when gas does not burn properly. You cannot see, taste, or smell it - BUT IT CAN KILL WITHOUT WARNING!
Symptoms to watch out for -
- You feel tired and drowsy
- Suffer from headaches
- Suffer pains in the chest and stomach
You are in most danger when you are asleep.
Trent & Dove check all gas appliances and pipe work in your home annually, however, you can help yourself by following these guidelines:
- Never block air vents on an appliance
- Never block outside grilles, flues or airbricks
- Never use an appliance if you are unsure whether it is working properly
- Never sleep in rooms that have a back boiler
- Always use CORGI registered workers to fit & install your gas appliances
- Always let contractors into your home to carry out repairs & annual checks
- Tell your housing office if you think a service has not been carried out
