Tutbury resident, Dorothy Foster’s suggestion to name Trent & Dove Housing’s new bungalow development, ‘Tudor Court’ saw her taking part in the official opening ceremony when the Mayor, Councillor Liz Staples, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Mrs Foster explained that she chose the name because of its association with Tutbury Castle, for which she and her husband do voluntary work.
The development comprising six new bungalows has been built to the highest energy efficiency standards with solar panels, high levels of thermal insulation and energy efficient boilers, making them very economical to keep warm. Completion did not go without major challenges which included a delay due to badgers being in the area. However, following advice from wildlife experts the situation was resolved without harm to the animals and the scheme was completed without further delay.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Mayor, Cllr. Staples said; “I am extremely pleased to be here as Mayor and local ward councillor to officially open these much needed bungalows which look wonderful. I am especially impressed by the energy efficiency and solar panels. I know that some of the new residents have come from Castle Hill House and I am sure that to come from a cold, draughty place to nice, warm properties must be wonderful. We have all heard about the saga of the badgers and I must add my thanks to the contractors, ADC who with the Trent & Dove development team successfully overcame the challenge and have delivered wonderful new homes.” The Mayor then presented project manager, Steve McLoughlin with a gift of a badger figurine to remind him of the project.
Malcolm Wardle, local resident and Chair of Trent & Dove’s resident federation and the Tutbury resident association, said; “I wish to add a big thank you to Trent & Dove who have done excellent work to produce such beautiful homes.”
Ron Dougan, Trent & Dove Housing’s chief executive added; “These are the best bungalows that I have ever seen and are a fantastic place to live. I would like to thank the contractors, ADC especially site foreman Steve, who went above and beyond his duties to ensure minimum disruption was caused to local residents, the architects, Walker Troup for their designs, and all the other people who have made this possible. Trent & Dove are very proud of these bungalows. They are the most energy efficient properties you can get and tenants’ fuel bills should be very low. I hope that everyone will be happy living here.”
