Improvements

Delivering Our Promises

When the Housing stock was transferred from East Staffordshire Borough Council, in 2001, Trent & Dove Housing made a number of promises to its residents in regard to improving properties during the first five years following transfer.

All planned, major schemes are well advanced and will ensure that Trent & Dove’s properties meet the Government’s ‘Decent Homes’ target by 2010. Our improvements actually exceed the basic requirements of this standard.

If you require any information regarding the improvement programmes and how they might affect you, please contact our Customer Liaison Officer, Alison on (01283) 528528.

Our Promises;

To offer to residents the opportunity to have a variety of improvements to their homes where the items were not already present or were in urgent need of replacement —

Kitchens and Bathrooms

Our 4-year kitchen & bathroom programme which started in October 2006 successfully completed in March 2010. Our aim was to replace all kitchens that would be older than 20-years and all bathrooms that would be older than 30-years by the year 2010. (i.e. installed before 1990 and 1980 respectively). Work started in Uttoxeter and its surrounding areas and progressed across the borough.

Can I Make Improvements to My Home?

You can also make alterations or improvements to your home. Consent from Trent & Dove Housing will usually be required so it is important that you contact your local office before carrying out any work .

Our information leaflet 'Making Alterations & Improvements' explains what to do and includes an application form. Use the link provided or contact your local office for a copy.

Trent & Dove Housing has a responsibility to ensure that the electrical and gas installations to your home are kept in a safe condition.

Electrical Installation Testing

logo Willmott DixonThe electrical installations to our properties aim to be safety checked every 10 years.  Wiring can age over a period of time therefore it is necessary to carry out periodic electrical tests and checks on its condition.  The test will check the safety of the electrical installation and highlights problems for future programmes, e.g. rewiring programmes.  The check will create only a minor inconvenience and maintains the safety of the installation and our tenants which is particularly important in flats where other tenants in the block could be at risk if the installation is not regularly checked.  For everyone's safety, if you receive a letter saying your Electrical Installation Test is due - please let us gain access.

 logo J TomlinsonAnnual Gas Servicing

We also have a requirement to carry out an Annual Gas Service to our properties.  Figures from the Carbon Monoxide and Gas Safety Society show that nationally, more than 500 people died between September 1995 and August 2008 as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.  This represents an average of 39 deaths in the UK a year. This highlights the importance for Trent & Dove to gain access to all of our properties to carry out an annual gas service.  If you start to suffer from symptoms such as severe headaches, chest or stomach pains, drowsiness, nausea, dizziness or general lethargy please contact your Doctor.  Also, please contact Trent & Dove immediately to arrange for an engineer to check your gas appliances.  For your own safety, if an Annual Gas Service is due - please let us gain access.

When your Annual Gas Service is due, J Tomlinson, the gas contactors, will write to you in advance with a suggested appointment date and time for the service.  Please contact them directly if you wish to change this to a date and time more convenient to yourself - their contact number will be shown on their letter to you.

The Annual Gas Servicing Programme for 2010 to 2011 is as follows -

Stapenhill Area 16 July 2010 until 20 September 2010
Horninglow Area 27 September 2010 until 15 November 2010
Winshill Area 22 November 2010 until 10 January 2011
Uttoxeter Town 24 January 2011 until 14 March 2011
Burton Town and Tutbury 28 March 2011 until 13 June 2011
