In 2004 he joined the Board of Governors at John Taylor High School where he still serves as Chair of the Building and Finance Committee. Since 2004, he was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire and has represented the Lord Lieutenant at many Royal Events in Staffordshire.

They have also been accredited with Investors in People, highly commended as an Investor in Excellence and were one of the first Housing Associations in the country to be awarded the Tenant Participation Advisory Service Pinpoint accreditation for resident empowerment and tenant involvement.
Ron Dougan, Chief Executive of Trent & Dove Housing said, “John is an inspiration to others. John has a passion for improving the housing and the environment for the local community. His gift for humour, deep sense of modesty and generosity of spirit are all attributes that we benefit from so greatly.”
Speaking of his OBE, Mr Jackson said, “I am delighted to have received this award, even if slightly embarrassed. I was very shocked when I was told of my nomination for the award and very humbled. I thought there must be people with greater need of such an award.”
