Advance Your Life (Skills - Support - Employment)

In March 2009, Trent & Dove Housing was successful in obtaining grant funding in collaboration with ‘CHANGES’, a support organization specializing in mental health issues, to operate a pilot project as part of an overall £2m Learning and Skills Council initiative.

The initiative aims to help selected regions test ways of developing and delivering advancement networks, within the wider development of an adult advancement and careers service.

Warning from Neighbourhood Watch

Keith Lemare, Tenant Board Member of Trent & Dove Housing has asked us to circulate this warning.
Reports being received of cold call sales telephone calls from various Security / Alarm companies. The companies are advising householders that they have been selected to have an Intruder Alarm system installed for FREE. On each occasion the company has then gone on to say they are affiliated with or recommended by Staffordshire Police and/or Neighbourhood Watch.

Please note neither Neighbourhood Watch nor Staffordshire Police are affiliated with any security installation company of any name, neither are they in a position to recommend any company directly. Their practice is to refer anyone looking to contact a security installation company to NACOSS, the National Approval Council for Security Systems were you can verify the company's credentials. They can be contacted on 0845 006 3003 or visit their web site address on  http://www.nacoss.org

The public are advised to be very wary of agreeing to such offers over the phone, if FREE offers sound too good to be true they usually are!

If you do decide you want to proceed always:

  • Check for any hidden charges, installation may be free but is there an over inflated annual maintenance charge?
  • Get up to three quotes from separate companies for  the work you wish to contract.
  • Check the company is registered NACOSS before arranging for them to visit.
  • Check and verify ID when they arrive at your home

Check they are offering the mandatory 7 day cancellation period if you purchase anything over £35.

To stop any unwanted sales calls, ring the Telephone Preference Service on 0845 070 0707 , or visit their web address on  www.tpsonline.org.uk

If you have any concerns about such cold callers please contact Neighbourhood Watch on 01785 235938 or Trading Standards on 0845 330 3313.
