Trent & Dove Launch Next Steps Accommodation Project
Customer News, News
Due to the success of our Housing First project, which was launched in September 2019, we are thrilled to announce our next initiative, Next Steps Accommodation.
Working alongside East Staffordshire Borough Council, the Next Steps Accommodation project will work closely with people who are currently living in temporary accommodation. The project aims to put in place the necessary support that will enable people to gain their independence and to live in one of our properties permanently in the future. The selected individuals will receive tailored support which includes assistance to join our housing register, setting up a personal bank account, applying for any benefits that they are entitled to, access to mental health support as required and advice and guidance to find a career.
Rachel Chudley, Housing Director at Trent & Dove Housing said: “We are delighted to introduce another project that supports people to find homes and reduce homelessness in our region. Next Steps Accommodation is a fantastic initiative, and it is great to be working alongside East Staffordshire Borough Council again and closely with other local agencies. Together we will help provide homes to those who are currently living in temporary accommodation. Projects like these play a pivotal role in supporting people, particularly those who need extra support, and this approach will provide much needed flexible assistance, focusing on what that person might need to live independently”.
Initially, we have purchased six properties and have reserved four from our housing stock to provide the temporary homes from which the service will be facilitated. Two people have already been identified to be part of the project and we are hoping to have supported all 10 people into permanent accommodation by the beginning of next year.
