Ladies cycling celebrates special birthday
Dozens of people celebrated a special birthday, highlighting the benefits of outdoor exercise, preventing social isolation, and raising money for charity.
On Monday, the women’s cycling group, a partnership between Everyone Active and Trent & Dove celebrated its 4th birthday with a special four-hour cycling challenge around the athletics track at Shobnall Leisure Complex.
The event brought together many original members alongside women who have since learnt to ride for the very first time at the group or bravely returned to cycling after years away from the saddle.
Over time, the group has become much more than just a place to cycle. Members have supported one another through life’s ups and downs, celebrated birthdays, welcomed grandchildren and built lasting friendships.

For some women recovering from hip and knee operations, cycling was a part of their physiotherapy and rehabilitation journey.
The celebrations included an amazing homemade birthday cake, and the group generously raised £150 for Breast Cancer Now. Our CEO Ursula Bennion also attended and thanked all the volunteers who make these sessions such a success.
Catherine Pendlebury, our Project Officer, reflected on the group’s success, saying:
“I am so proud of the ladies for all their achievements. It’s such a friendly, supportive group. Everyone is made to feel welcome.
"There’s cycling and plenty of conversation too!”

As the group pedals into its fifth year, it’s clear the true strength of the club is not measured in miles ridden, but in the friendships formed, confidence gained and support shared along the way.
The group takes place every Monday morning from 10am to 12pm at Shobnall Leisure Complex. A range of bikes, trikes and helmets are provided and is free of charge!
