Take a look inside the ongoing Tyldesley Court development

Fresh images have been revealed showing the progress of our multi-million-pound development designed to revitalise a former shopping centre site .
As applications are now open, we are excited to unveil the ongoing work to deliver 72 high-quality apartments for the over-55s community in the heart of Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire , in keeping with our mission to Transform Homes, Lives and Communities.
With stunning views over the River Trent, t he development — known as Tyldesley Court — consists of one — and two-bedroom apartments on four floors on the town’s High Street. The apartments feature the very best in safety and security .

Pull cords are fitted in all apartments, and a portable call unit with 24/7 links to a warden call provider is also installed. All doors use a fob entry system, and video access is available for doors to enable customers to see their visitors before they grant access.
The photos mark the latest stage of the development , showing fitted kitchens featur ed in the open plan lounge/diner area . The kitchen designs were chosen by members of the Tyldesley Court founders’ group where we engaged members of the community to have their say on the ongoing scheme.

Trent & Dove’s Independent Living New Services Manager, Samantha Yates, said:
“Tyldesley Court is more than just a housing development - it’s a vibrant, safe, and welcoming community where older residents can truly feel at home.
“ From the carefully considered safety features to the involvement of our founders’ group in shaping the design, every detail reflects our commitment to independence, dignity, and wellbeing.
“ We’re proud to see this exciting vision taking shape in the heart of Burton.”
The site has been an important gateway to the town since the Middle Ages, leading to its locally known name of Bargates . Originally a brewery, the land was rebuilt as Bargates Shopping Centre in 1963. By 2007 the shopping centre was demolished.
Along with our development partner Morro, we later acquired the land from East Staffordshire Borough Council and work started on the site in 2023 .
Each apartment comes equipped with a fitted kitchen
Homes England supports the £21.3 million scheme with grant funding via our strategic partnership with Orbit Group.
The development has been named Tyldesley Court after English Civil War general Sir Thomas Tyldesley, who received a knighthood after leading a charge across Burton Bridge in 1643.
Applications for an apartment are now open until Wednesday 25th June.
A further 10 three-bed family homes are also being delivered on the site and will be advertised later this year.
