What role does the Audit and Risk Committee play?
It is responsible for understanding the risk to the organisation's delivery performance, customer satisfaction, and regulatory framework. Then seeking assurance that risk is managed our strategic direction is appropriate in the context of our risk appetite. Understanding risk and having action plans to operate accordingly is important.

What is important to you about social housing?
Whilst I'm not a housing expert, I see housing as a fundamental contributor to safe and stable family units, and I’m pleased I can all contribute positively to this.

How does Trent & Dove go above and beyond to support its customers?
Trent & Dove is not just about bricks-and-mortar, but fundamentally it is concerned with the people and communities it serves. Houses are a critical part of what we physically create
, but we continue to keep our customers at the forefront of our decision-making.

How has it been working with the Customer Committee?

The Customer Committee is an excellent example of how far we go in delivering what is important to us.

It’s prompted us to raise the profile of specific topics, heightened our focus in certain areas, and brought to life the lived experience of the policies and direction the Board sets out. You can make decisions in isolation, but if you don't know how it feels to live in one of our houses or communities  because of those decisions, how can you tell if you're having an impact?

What has been your proudest moment as a Board member?

The governance rating we have is a good reflection of us as an organisation, and an external validation by our regulator that we are operating well and as they would expect of us – this should never be taken for granted, and the whole organisation contributed to this outcome.

How does the Board ensure that Trent & Dove is embracing ED&I?

Every effort is made to create an organisation that reflects our community.
We are inclusive as an organisation in what we do. We don’t want anybody to feel they were not welcome or excluded from our organisation.

Do you have a favourite quote or philosophy that inspires you?
I have two.

‘Only speak if you can improve the silence’ - Mahatma Gandhi, and sometimes I should take more note of it!
From Finding Nemo, when Dory says: ‘Just keep swimming’. There's always going to be challenges ahead, but you just have to keep going even when it feels hard.
